The Art of Letting Go: How Subconscious Healing Helped Me Release Chronic Constipation
1/12/2026
For a long time, letting go was not just emotionally hard, it was physically impossible. Chronic constipation became part of my daily rhythm. I tried diets, cleanses, supplements, physical movement, osteopathy and every “fix” the internet suggested. Sometimes I’d get brief relief but nothing lasted. And the truth was: that relief never addressed why my body was holding on so persistently. It wasn’t until I began looking at my experience through a psychosomatic lens, through Recall Healing and German New Medicine that I found release, resolution and a truth no one could take from me.
What I Began to See When I Listened Differently
Recall Healing is a framework that works with the emotional roots of physical symptoms, assuming that unresolved stress, conflict, or trauma often buried in the subconscious can shape the body’s reactions. In Recall Healing, illness isn’t random. It’s a biological response to stress that first served survival. It suggests that many physical conditions are not “mistakes” of the body they are biological strategies devised by the automatic nervous system in response to experiences. The key isn’t denial or resistance, but awareness: when an underlying emotional conflict becomes conscious, it no longer runs your life or your body. The automatic brain can finally release the conflict as there is no longer the survival need for it.
How the Body Speaks Through Constipation
From a lived and biological perspective, the colon’s role is very clear: to eliminate what is no longer needed.
When the body refuses to let go it doesn’t mean it’s stubborn :) it means it is incredibly intelligent, responding to a specific survival program within your subconscious. Constipation often reflects a deep internal tension around letting go emotionally of someone or a specific experience in your life. Chronic symptoms often mean that something from the past is still alive in the present, not consciously, but within the subconscious.
Recall Healing doesn’t reduce this to metaphor. It looks at:
the emotional conflict your nervous system learned to protect you with
the survival meaning your body created from that conflict
where that meaning is stored in your nervous system before it ever became a habit
In this model, symptoms make sense not because they are random, but because they hold a biological purpose.
What I Found Beneath the Symptom
In my own process and in the work I do with clients three layers commonly emerge when we trace chronic holding patterns like constipation:
(1) Early Life Imprints
The body memorizes survival strategies long before the mind makes meaning of them. The nervous system learns early attachment patterns, especially with the mother or primary caregiver. If safety felt conditional, or if expressing needs felt risky, the system learned to hold, emotionally and physically. This lived experience becomes the architecture of survival.
(2) Present-Moment Stress
While the root of the conflict of constipation is often old, a chronic symptom remains active because something in the present keeps reactivating it. The nervous system doesn’t live in time, it lives in perception.
(3) Ancestral and Transgenerational Memory
Sometimes the weight we carry is not only ours. Recall Healing and Family Constellations considers how past generations’ unresolved trauma, grief, or survival strategies can be inherited through family systems. These patterns are not psychological theories, they are embodied memories that shape the unconscious landscape of the nervous system.
What Shifted for Me
Old belief systems and identities didn’t dissolve overnight. They softened and released slowly as I walked the inner alchemy of letting go through words spoken out loud, tears, emotional processes, journaling, integration, and many quiet “aha” moments.
What emerged was a new way of seeing life. A capacity to find wisdom in past experiences, to reframe what happened, and to recognize what I grew into because of it, the inner resources that were formed along the way. I came to understand that no experience holds only negative meaning. There is always something life has shaped within us through it.
As these layers integrated, my body responded. My digestion began to move, to find balance again. I experienced what once felt like a small miracle: normal, natural bowel movements, day after day. From there, a deeper truth settled in me, that if I want to shift a physical symptom, I must look at its real origin, deeply rooted in the subconscious and unconscious. This is where the key lives.
Listening Instead of Fixing
Recall Healing doesn’t promise quick cures. It doesn’t pretend that awareness replaces commitment or responsibility. It simply shows what many of us intuitively sense: the body speaks a language. We only need to learn how to decode this language.
When Holding On Becomes Heavy
Chronic constipation, bloating, acid reflux and cramps are not just digestive issues. They are invitations to understand what the body has been protecting you from, what emotions it has learned to hold, and what subconscious program is still running beneath the surface.
If you feel a subtle recognition as you read this, it may be time to look beneath the symptom with gentleness and honesty, to listen to the deeper story your body has been trying to tell.
This is the kind of work I hold in my 3-month 1:1 mentoring journey, a space where we explore symptoms, patterns, and life blocks at their root, through the body, the nervous system, and the family field. It is slow, precise work, held with presence and responsibility, so real change can take place.
If something in you recognizes this, and your body feels a quiet yes,
I would be honored to walk this path with you.
